Pen and Ink sketch of Barry hard at work shoeing. Drawn on a vintage book page “For Love Of A Horse” the first in the Jinny & Shantih Series by Patricia Leitch.
I’d taken the photo that this sketch is based on a few years ago. The composition was nice and the pony, Milo, very relaxed and the whole scene just made for a lovely view.
It seemed an apt image to put together with this vintage pony book page which describes Jinny & Mike’s first day at their new school in Glenbost village with the horrid Mr Gorman as their teacher. It made me think of Barry, Mr HH who had his own run ins with the education system himself though not in quite the same way!
As a teenage Barry loved to go out working with his Dad who was also a farrier. He couldn’t nail on shoes at the time, but it didn’t stop him from practising shaping shoes, forging and helping his Dad with any task at hand. But this may, more often than not, have been the chosen activity rather than attending school and Barry recalls the day he arrived home with his father to find his Year Head waiting at his home to enquire after his non attendance… whoops!
This piece of art is a one off original by me, Faye for Horseshoe Hearts and is the only one of it’s kind. It is looking for a new home where it will be loved and appreciated. Once it has gone, it has gone!
It measures 10cm wide by 15cm tall inside of it’s mount and an overall size of 15cm wide by 20cm tall. It comes in a mount on a back board ready to be placed into a frame of your choosing.
