Beautiful, quaint and quirky these Horseshoe Fairy Doors made in rural Hertfordshire. Each Fairy Door is made from a genuine, used “lucky” horseshoe with Farrier’s nails for hinges, door knob and the little horseshoe detail on the door.
For as long as I can remember I have loved fairies, over the years I’ve collected various fairy ornaments and sought out magical fairy dells where ever I’ve wandered. The evolution of horseshoe into fairy door there for seemed a very natural progression!
Lovingly hand crafted from start to finish these doors incorporate reclaimed wood, shoeing nails and of course a horseshoe. Each door has a little metal loop on it’s back to enable you to secure it against a wall if you chose. They are all treated in a clear sealant to protect from rust. However, the weather in the UK is frequently damp and wet and if you do not want your door to tarnish we recommend keeping it indoors.
From your own shoes
We are more than happy to use your own shoes to create a Fairy door. It’s appearance may vary slightly according to the type of shoe as we do not adjust the horseshoe’s shape. We leave them as close to their original appearance as possible, blending something old with something new. Please measure the width of the shoe you wish to use at it’s widest point and chose the corresponding size door.
Small Doors 10cm x 10cm to 12cm by 12cm
Medium 13cm x 13cm to 15cm by 15cm
Large 16cm x 16cm plus
Please note small Fairy Doors will only have simple hinges made from one farrier’s nail each. Only medium and large doors have more elaborate hinges made from three nails each. We can’t fit the larger hinges onto the small doors.
